Windows 10 Trouble : Emoji Keyboard replaces several emojis with unicode characters (❤, , ⚗, etc)
Error Trouble : There’s a bug(?) in the emoji keyboard where attempting to enter one of a subset of emojis that seem to have available unicode replacements results in those replacements being typed instead of the selected emoji. It’s incredibly frustrating. It means to type these emojis (there are something like thirty of them) the only way is to open the emoji keyboard, hover over the emoji to get its name, do a web search for the emoji and copy-and-paste it into the app in question. It’s….it’s just horrible.I just tried typing a bunch of emojis and found a whole bunch, including❤️ -> ❤ -> ☺☠️ ->

How to Fix Emoji Keyboard replaces several emojis with unicode characters (❤, , ⚗, etc) on Windows 10?
Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.
I appreciate the efforts taken by you in resolving the issue. I understand that emoji keyboard replaces emojis with Unicode. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.
In which application are you trying to use the emojis?
Were you able to use the emojis earlier?
Are you aware of any changes made to the computer prior to this issue?
Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? Refer Which version of Windows operating system am I running?
I would suggest you to try creating a new user account and see if that helps. To create a new user account, refer the article Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10.
Let us know how it goes.

1. This happens all applications:
Web browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Brave), and applications based on them using Electron (like Slack, Discord, Signal Messenger, Visual Studio Code, etc.)
Wordpad, Notepad, Windows Explorer
Many other third party applications (e.g. JetBrains Rider)
NOT in Microsoft Word – but it’s worth noting that Word renders a unicode heart typed with alt+3 as an emoji, so I don’t think word is actually working in this instance, rather that it’s rendering certain unicode characters as emoji)
2. It’s been like this for as long as I can remember
3. Like I said, I don’t think this has ever worked
4. Build 19042.867 (15/03/2021), Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0
I recently reinstalled windows on my laptop and this problem exists there too, so a new user account doesn’t fix things, neither does a clean windows install.
This just seems to be a bug or poorly-thought-out feature of the windows emoji keyboard.
