Windows 10 Trouble : Media control skip buttons not working
Error Trouble : I use Youtube to listen to music in a playlist. I used a skip button on my keyboard to skip songs. However, it stopped working and the media control pop up had its skip buttons grayed out. Is this a problem with Youtube or is it a problem with something in my computer? If its the latter, how can I fix this? What or where in Windows 10 controls the media control?

How to Fix Media control skip buttons not working on Windows 10?

  1. Hi Catpip. I’m Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator, here to help you.

What browser are you using? THere are a number of fixes discussed here including for Chrome:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/YoutubeMusic/comments/…

The problem seems to be caused by Extensions so try disabling your browser’s Extensions to see if it works again: https://community.box.com/t5/How-to-Guides-for-…

If your browser won’t work then I’d switch to Chrome and make sure the extension which the thread says interferes is not installed.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let me know how it goes. If you’ll wait to mark whether the post resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it’s resolved.

  2. Did it previously work in Chrome? What keys exactly?

    1) See if you can System Restore to a point before the problem began following this guide: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r…

System Restore is your first line of defense and can take you back to a point before a problem began. If it doesn’t help then you can undo it. Read about it first in the tutorial above and then try restoring to just before this started.

If the problem repeats or System Restore doesn’t work then check which Windows Updates were installed at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Update History, uninstall them there or System Restore again, then immediately check for and block the Updates with the Hide Updates tool explained here: https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta…

    2) Reset Chrome following this guide:
    https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-reset-google-ch…

If that doesn’t fix it then Reinstall Chrome:

Right click empty area of Task bar to open Task manager.
    If necessary show More Details
Under “Processes,” look for “Google Chrome” or “chrome.exe.”
Click it, then click End process.

Then go into C:Program Files and C:Program Files (86) to find the Google folder and delete the Chrome Folder.

You may need to Take Ownership first using this handy tool that will install to your right click mouse button: https://www.askvg.com/add-take-ownership-option…

On the View tab of File Explorer then tick Hidden Files, open C:Program Data to do the same.

Go into Start > Windows Settings (gear icon) > Apps > Apps & Features > Google Chrome > Uninstall.

Restart PC to reinstall Chrome from fresh download here: https://www.google.com/chrome/

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it’s resolved.
