Ask Windows File Explorer is too confusing for words. Windows 10

Windows 10 Trouble : Windows File Explorer is too confusing for words.
Error Trouble : So I’m looking at the left pane of Windows File Explorer. First, I wish I could get rid if Quick Links. It looks like my Home folder (the one with my name, BTW, can I simply rename it to home), This PC and Recycle Bin.But isn’t my Home folder on ‘This PC’?? Where else would it be? I see a Documents inside my Home Folder but I also see it on This PC. Same folder? Who knows? Wait. I see another Desktop. Are you trying to make this confusing? So now I drop into my Home folder and what do I see, another Desktop containing another Documents. Are they the same, don’t ask me.OK,

How to Fix Windows File Explorer is too confusing for words. on Windows 10?

  1. Hi MrFabulousHimself,
I’m Rodrigo, Independent Advisor and I will help you.
I understand your frustation, but let me explain this to you.

“This PC” is not exactly an folder, it is like a shortcut hub for your files. Documents, Videos, Pictures folders that show on “This PC” are actually on your Home folder.
The Home folder you found digging OSDisk, is the actual location of your home folder, the other ones are only shortcuts to this folder.

To be clear, there’s only one home folder per user, the other ones are only shortcuts to the actual folder.

You kinds just said that 7/8ths of the Left pane is shrotcuts that I presume, I’m required to keep.

So how can I tell what a shortcut is and what an actual folder is. And how can I git my folders , you know, folder icons???

  3. To check if you’re in the right folder you and open it, right click in a blank space and select “Properties”, in “General” tab it will show the folder location (Should be C:Users(your usermane)

You can’t change the explorer shortcut icons, only the actual folder Icon or a desktop shortcut icon, to do that you can right click the folder, select “Properties”, select “Customize” tab, and under “Folder Icons” you can change the folder icon

Here are some file explorer alternativities for your appreciation.
