Help Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Pro Windows 10

Windows 10 Trouble : Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Pro
Error Trouble : I have an existing HP laptop that I purchased with Windows 10 Home. I have an old device I no longer use with a product key for Windows 7 Pro. When I go into the activation screen to update the product key using the older Windows 7 Pro key I have from my previous device, it says the key is invalid. What is the correct steps to upgrade my existing Win 10 Home license to Win 10 Pro using my old Pro key?

How to Fix Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Pro on Windows 10?

  1. Hi Matthew

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this.

Is your Windows 7 Pro licence based on an OEM licence (came pre-installed on a PC) or Retail (purchased separately to a PC).

If it is a Retail licence, then it will have transfer rights to a new PC, if it is OEM it will not.

Is your Windows 7 Pro licence a full Retail licence and if so, was that Windows 7 licence ever previously updated to Windows 10 on the old PC?

I believe it was retail and was upgraded to Windows 10. What is the process to activate the key?
